Cinema continues to evolve through new perspectives, filmmakers discovering their own voices, and projects making the transition from script to screen. This is the case for Alba Lozano, a former student of ECPV – Basque Country Film School, who has begun shooting her new film, Rafaela.

The beginning of a film shoot is always a defining moment in the life of a project. After months, sometimes years, of writing, development and preparation, stories finally begin to take shape in front of the camera. For Alba Lozano, this production represents another step in her journey as a director and in the development of her own body of work.

From ECPV classrooms to filmmaking

Alba Lozano belongs to a generation of filmmakers who have studied at the Basque Country Film School and continue to build their careers within the audiovisual industry.

Since its foundation, ECPV has approached film education as a space for experimentation, learning and collaboration between established professionals and emerging creators. A place to explore cinematic language while developing a personal perspective on the stories worth telling.

The beginning of Rafaela also offers an opportunity to highlight the importance of supporting emerging filmmakers, recognising that education does not end when students leave the classroom. It continues through every project, every production and every new professional collaboration.

A new film takes shape

With cameras now rolling, Rafaela enters one of the most significant stages of its creative journey. The shoot will bring together the different disciplines involved in filmmaking, transforming the work carried out during development and pre-production into moving images.

At ECPV, we follow the careers of our former students with great interest, celebrating not only the projects they bring to life but also the diversity of perspectives, sensibilities and cinematic approaches they contribute to the industry.

The beginning of filming on Rafaela is another reason to celebrate cinema and the importance of supporting new filmmaking voices.

Everyone at the Basque Country Film School wishes Alba Lozano and the entire Rafaela team a successful shoot.
