Registrations open until May 15

From May 16 to 18, the Municipal Cemetery of Bilbao will host the second edition of the Short Film Contest organized by Bilbao Zerbitzuak. Far from being a big production, the initiative aims to highlight the cemetery’s cultural and historical value through cinema.
The contest will begin on Friday at 12:00 PM and end on Sunday at 5:00 PM. During this time, participants must record short films that showcase the richness of the site. Entries can be made in Spanish, Basque, or both, and must be submitted by May 29 via WeTransfer to info@zbk.bilbao.eus.
The jury includes notable cultural figures such as city councilor Álvaro Pérez, filmmaker Alvar Gordejuela, journalist Eva Argote, and programmer Cristina Ezquerra. According to Pérez, the contest has two clear goals: to promote the cemetery through culture and to encourage open conversation about death. Last year’s edition was a success in both participation and quality.
Registrations are open until May 15 on the Bilbao Zerbitzuak website. The contest will award a first prize of €1,000 and a second prize of €500. Two additional €200 prizes will be given to participants under 18: one for Best Young Director and another based on public votes.
The awards ceremony will take place on June 6 at 7:00 PM in the cemetery chapel, where attendees will also be able to vote for their favorite short film.
