The Basque Country Film School (ECPV) has announced the launch of its new Audiovisual Literacy Workshop for Schools, an educational program aimed at Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and Baccalaureate students. The workshop is designed to teach young people how to watch, understand, and create audiovisual content with a critical, ethical, and gender-aware perspective.

In today’s world, where visual media plays a dominant role in shaping perceptions and knowledge, audiovisual literacy has become an essential skill. This workshop meets that need by training students in image analysis, critical thinking, and socially conscious audiovisual creation.

Training for the Digital Age

The course consists of interactive and hands-on sessions, tailored to the specific needs of each school. Through a dynamic and participatory approach, students learn to decode the language of audiovisual media and become responsible consumers and reflective content creators.

The workshop’s main objectives include:

  • Developing a critical eye: Students are taught to analyze visual messages beyond the surface, identifying stereotypes, biases, and underlying narratives.
  • Encouraging critical and creative thinking: The program helps students question the media they consume and express their own ideas independently and responsibly.
  • Promoting gender equality: In line with the LOMLOE Educational Law, the workshop integrates a gender perspective by analyzing how media portrays gender roles.
  • Fostering audiovisual creation: Participants not only analyze but also produce their own content, using film and other media as a means of personal and social expression.

A Resource for Schools Committed to Digital Education

This workshop is ideal for secondary schools and baccalaureate programs seeking to incorporate audiovisual literacy and gender awareness into the curriculum. ECPV’s proposal enhances students’ media competence, a key skill for navigating today’s digital culture with critical awareness.

How to Participate

Schools interested in the program can contact ECPV to request more information and schedule a session. The school’s teaching team will deliver the workshop on-site, adapting it to the group’s level and context.
